The objective of the Bachelor of Oil & Gas Engineering program is to graduate practical, qualified engineers who can successfully pursue careers in the oil and gas production and services industries or similar areas.
Graduates of the program are expected to understand the fundamental principles of Science and Engineering behind the technology of Oil & Gas Engineering to keep their education current and to give them the capability of self-instruction after graduation. They should be prepared to serve society by using the ideals of ethical behaviour, professionalism, and environmentally responsible stewardship of natural resources.
The objective of the Master of Oil & Gas Engineering is to prepare the student for professional work in the energy industry, or for doctoral studies, through completion of fundamental courses in the major field and in related sciences as well as independent research.
Research subjects include certain groundwater hydrology and environmental problems, energy industry management, flow of non-Newtonian fluids, geothermal energy, natural gas engineering, oil and gas recovery, pipeline transportation, production optimization, reservoir characterization and modeling, carbon sequestration, reservoir engineering, reservoir simulation, and transient well test analysis.
The education and training of doctoral students is one of the most important aspects of a university activity. The pursuit of knowledge through research higher degree programs not only leads to a well-educated society and a highly trained professional work force, but also contributes significantly to the university research and scholarship. The aim of the PhD program is to provide research training in a manner that fosters the development of independent research skills in candidates.
These skills include the capacity to formulate a significant problem, to develop mastery of appropriate conceptual and methodological skills, and to relate the research topic to a broader framework of knowledge in the relevant disciplinary area. The doctoral thesis provides evidence of a contribution to knowledge with a level of originality consistent with 3-4 years of full-time study and research training. It also demonstrates a candidate's capacity for critical analysis and that he or she is capable of pursuing scholarly and programmatic research.
